15 Dermatologist Approved Skincare Tips For The Best Skin Of Your Life

The world of skincare is very diverse and it is often intimidating with all its tough names that are more complicated than the names of dinosaurs and microorganisms combined. Since this is a daunting world, everyone looks up to someone who’s a professional and knows what they’re talking about, and who’s better at this than the doctor of skin, a dermatologist who knows the physiology of the skin in and out and can, therefore, give some amazing skin care tips that no one else would be able to give!

Sensing the need of the hour, we at Jenpharm, decided to come to your rescue and contacted a panel of reputed dermatologists to ask for their top beauty tips for face and body and their suggestions on how to take care of your skin? We often read skin beauty tips on the internet or any skin treatment is sometimes suggested by our favorite influencer and we go like, yes! This is the one tip that’ll save our skin but end up getting disappointed because our skin is different from those we were following, so we end up damaging our skin further! So we’re here with health and beauty tips that apply to all skin types and if there’s anything specific, we’ll mention it for you!

Without any further ado, let us step into the glamourous world of skincare!

Face oils have been gaining popularity in recent years, with a range of products and different types of oils on the market. It can be confusing to know which face oil you should be using and when – after all, for a long time oil-free skincare was said to be best for your skin. Now that this myth has been busted, it’s hard to figure out which step of your skincare routine a face oil should slot into and which type is best. We’ve got a quick breakdown for you !

1) Cleansers For Combination Skin Type

A combination skin, as the name implies is a combination of two major skin types; Oily and Dry. So your skin is oily and dry at the same time. “You need something that will solve each area of the face without aggravating the other condition,” Remarked Dr. Shehzad. “My best tip that I often give my patients is to stay away from extreme ingredients! Choose milder ingredients that are suitable for both skin types. If your skin is an oily combination, get a facewash that is exfoliating yet mild in nature, and allow more contact time in the areas that are oilier and lesser in those that are dry” Jenpharm’s MandelAC facewash with 3% Mandelic acid is awesome in this regard.

2) Moisturize Regardless Of Your Skin Type

As per Doctor Alizay, “One common mistake among the masses is they think a moisturizer is specific for dry skin only but that is a misconception! Every skin, regardless of its inherent nature, needs a good dose of moisturization. Oily skin doesn’t mean moisturized skin, sebum and water are two different things and you can not survive without either! For oily skin people, I suggest using a lightweight, water-based moisturizer.”

Jenpharm’s DermiVe Oil-Free Moisturizer is one such moisturizer for your oily skin moisturization needs!

3) Remove Makeup Before Sleeping

"Nothing kills your skin more than choking it with loads of makeup products that are comedogenic and thus they clog your pores, which result in acne.” Said Dr. Azfar, a leading dermatologist. “No matter how tired you’re, washing the products off your face is going to save your skin and this is what will provide freshness to your skin. Even if you’re not going to maintain a PM routine, as a rule of thumb, you should always wash your face before bedtime.”

4) Don’t Choose Randomly

As we were talking to Dr. Shahzad, he told us one common problem which is why many people suffer from multiple skin problems. As per him, many people choose products randomly and not in accordance with their skin types and skin needs. For instance, certain emollients are excellent for dry skin but they are not meant for oily skin, so no matter how great the ingredients are, they’ll damage your skin if they’re not what your skin desires!

5) Moisturize On Damp Skin

Ever felt like you weren’t getting the full benefit of your moisturizer? One very interesting tip by our own Dr. Sara is to apply the moisturizer on slightly damp skin! Not only will the moisturizer absorb better in your skin, but it’ll also retain that water in the skin and will make it more supple and dewy!

6) Don’t Forget Your Neck

We talked to Dr. Naureen about the importance of sunscreen and she said and we quote, “ Sunscreen is your skin’s best friend that’ll literally save your skin! It’s a best friend you shouldn’t leave behind because the support it offers to your skin is not only unmatched, but it is important for the survival of healthy-looking skin.”

8) Exfoliation Is Recommended

“The thing with exfoliation is that people struggle to find the perfect ingredient and perfect duration to maintain a good exfoliation regime.” Said Dr. Zarar when we asked about this step in the skin care routine. “I always suggest exfoliating twice a week in summer to slough off dead skin cells, no less no more! In winter, do it once a week or once in two weeks. It is always a great idea to start with milder ingredients that won’t damage your skin.”

9) Drink Water

External hydration is important but every dermatologist and every doctor will tell you about how important it is to maintain an adequate intake of water so your skin appears fresh, young, and healthy. Drinking 8 glasses of water is a minimum requirement in a day!

10) Thin To Thick

Dr. Alizay recommended building your skincare in the thin to thick method. This way, you’ll get the maximum benefit of every product. If you layer the thickest product first and go down to thin, it’ll not absorb in your skin. So apply your serums first, then a moisturizer, then sunscreen.

11) Let Go Of Harsh DIYS

“I understand it is convenient to go in your pantry and whip up a concoction you saw on the internet but it is not always recommended. These DIY masks do often promote the usage of lemon or such harsh ingredients on the skin which will strip your skin raw so please, don’t do that to yourself.” Said Dr. Kumail.

12) Spot Treatment FTW

As per Dr. Alizay, “It is not common, but it is something that should be common! If you’ve sensitive skin and acne, or acne scars, you don’t have to stop using products. Don’t use on the entire face but use it for spot treatment and save your skin.”

13) Maintain AM and PM Routine

All dermatologists recommend maintaining an AM and PM routine. Our skin needs AM routine to protect itself during the day and a PM routine to heal and rejuvenate itself. So, it is recommended to build both routines instead of only one time!

14) Eat Healthily

One sure way of having great skin is by eating healthy. If you eat well, it shows up on your skin and you look good so it is recommended to have a healthy intake of fruits, vegetables, lentils, meat, nuts, and everything nutritious to get great skin.

15) De-Puffing The Face

If you’re struggling with a puffy face that resembles the pufferfish, Dr. Naureen recommends using a steel spoon stored in the refrigerator to depuff your face gently. Cold compression works great to relax your blood vessels and make it appear depuffed and nice!”
