Skincare: The Complete Guide for Pakistan - Skin Types, Routines & Ingredients Explained

Skincare: The Complete Guide for Pakistan - Skin Types, Routines & Ingredients Explained

By Qurat ul Ain Nasrullah on Sep 29, 2026

Look at people’s skincare in Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, or anywhere in Pakistan. Everyone has the same type of skincare routine in Pakistan. A vitamin C serum bought after a reel. A scrub a cousin swore by. A toner you bought after the hype. A moisturizer that you abandoned because you did not like the formula. Meanwhile, the skin itself does something confusing. Shiny by noon, tight after washing, dark spots from last month’s breakouts. This is all a lot for your skin. It might also be very overwhelming for people to spend thousands on skincare. Their skin still remains the same.

More products rarely fix that. Knowing what your skin is doing, choosing a few products that suit it, and using them long enough to judge them does. This guide covers those three things. How to find your skin type, what a sensible skincare routine in Pakistan looks like, and what the popular ingredients can and cannot do. Also, learn how to add products from the Jenpharm skincare collection to your routine.

What Does a Good Skincare Routine Need?

Your skin simply needs three things according to your skin type:

  • a gentle cleanser

  • a suitable moisturizer

  • and a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 50 or above.

Build your habits around these products. Wash twice a day and after sweating. Moisturizer after every wash. Wear sunscreen every morning. You can also add a targeted active such as niacinamide serum or an exfoliating acid for your skin needs.

There is basically no such thing as a “Pakistani skin type.” A lot of factors matter in skin type, and it can differ even between two sisters who share the same bathroom. Holding a Pakistani passport does not make skin oilier, drier, or more sensitive.

What changes from place to place is the setting. Many people in Pakistan, and across South Asia, have medium to deeper skin tones. The higher melanin production makes their skin more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. PIH is the flat brown marks that outlast a pimple or a rash by months. The weather in Pakistan varies from Karachi’s humidity to a dry Islamabad or Quetta winter. Daily life often exposes you to the outdoors, whether that’s a motorbike commute, a walk to the bus or a market run, hours in university or college, or even living inside your open-air houses.

The climate can change frequently every month and in every city. So, one skincare routine cannot work for all, even in the same city, all year.

Find Your Skin Type Before You Buy Anything

Before you go into a trial-and-error approach for your skin, you should know your skin type. Knowing your skin type can help you understand your skin needs and buy the right products.

Skin Type

What you’ll notice

What to look for

Oily

Shine across forehead, nose, and chin within a few hours; visible pores; blackheads

Gel or lotion textures; a wash that clears oil without stripping

Dry

Tightness or flaking after washing; rough patches; a dull look

A soap-free, gentle face wash; a richer moisturizer with ceramides; no exfoliating cleansers

Combination

Oily T-zone, normal or dry cheeks

One gentle wash; a light moisturizer; treat the oily zone, not the whole face

Sensitive

Stinging or flushing with many products; reacts to fragrance

Short ingredient list; fragrance-free; patch test everything

Normal

Comfortable through the day, rarely shiny or tight

Keep it simple and protect from sun damage.

These are basic characteristics of each skin type and what each one needs. After understanding what your skin feels like, you can adjust your skincare accordingly.

The Three Steps that Do Most of the Work

All you need is three basic steps: cleanse, moisturize, and protect. Dermatology builds around these basic steps for a healthier, non-heavy routine for everyone.

For cleansing, the AAD’s guidance is to wash twice a day and after sweating, using fingertips and lukewarm water rather than a washcloth or scrub, with an alcohol-free cleanser. For oily skin, the point bears repeating: a harsh wash can trigger more oil, not less.

Moisturizer follows, ideally on slightly damp skin, and it stays in the routine even if you’re oily. Sunscreen goes on last in the morning for protection.

Skin Type

Morning

Night

Oily/ acne-prone

Gentle wash or rinse, Dermive Oil Free Moisturizer, Spectra Matt SC SPF 50

Clarevo or MandelAC Facewash, then a moisturizer. Niacinamide serum

Dry

Dermive Moisturizing Wash, Dermive Sensitive Moisturizer, Spectra Block SPF 60

Same wash, same moisturizer

Combination

Dermive Moisturizing Wash, Dermive Oil-Free Moisturizer, Sunscreen

MandelAC Facewash, Dermive Oil-Free Fragrance-Free

Sensitive

Dermive Moisturizing Wash, Dermive Sensitive, patch test a suitable sunscreen

Same wash, same moisturizer

These are the basic routine products that you can use from Jenpharm. Once your skin adjusts to these products for three to four weeks, you can add one active at a time. Oil and visible pores need Niaronic Serum. Acne and acne marks need MandelAC Serum. Use Maxdif Brightening Serum for dull and hyperpigmented skin.

The Ingredients People Ask About and What Each One Does

Along with the basic skincare routine, people usually ask about certain ingredients. They want to treat specific skin concerns like acne, pigmentation, or dullness using serums. Here is an overview of each popular skincare ingredient in Pakistan.

Niacinamide

Vitamin B3, and one of the better-studied cosmetic actives. In one trial, a 2% concentration reduced oil output and visible pore size over four weeks. It supports the barrier by raising the skin’s own ceramide levels. Topical use has slowed the progression of hyperpigmentation in clinical trials. It won’t close pores. Nothing does because your skin breathes through pores.

NiaRonic Serum combines 10% niacinamide with 1% zinc and 1% hyaluronic acid. That’s a high strength. Jenpharm’s own advice for sensitive skin is to introduce it gradually after a patch test.

Ceramides, Hyaluronic Acid, and Glycerin

These come together but do different jobs. Ceramides are lipids that skin already makes to seal its barrier. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin draw water into the surface. Later, a moisturizer keeps it there.

The Dermive Moisturizer range is built around this concept. The Moisturizing Wash pairs ceramides NP, AP, and EOP with zinc PCA and hyaluronic acid. Dermive Oil-Free puts ceramides and hyaluronic acid in a light base. Dermive Sensitive leans on ceramides A3, oat kernel oil, and Vitamin E.

Jenpharm notes it can feel heavy on oily or acne-prone skin. If your face feels tight within a minute of washing, this is the category to fix first.

Salicylic Acid and Mandelic Acid

Both exfoliate in different places. Salicylic acid (a BHA) dissolves in oil, so it can travel into the pore and clear the plug behind blackheads. Mandelic acid (AHA) dissolves in water and works nearer the surface. Its molecule is larger than glycolic acid’s, so it penetrates slowly and is generally considered easier to tolerate. It helps those who are prone to acne and acne marks.

Choose by the problem. Blackheads and midday shine point to salicylic acid. Clarevo pairs with glycolic acid, and it also contains menthol and sodium laureth sulfate, so dry or reactive skin should not use it. Old brown marks and congestion need mandelic acid: MandelAC Facewash contains 3%, and MandelAC Serum contains 20%. Use the two acids on separate nights and never in the same routine. Before you add these to your skincare routine in Pakistan, you should know the difference between mandelic acid and salicylic acid.

Vitamin C, Alpha Arbutin, and Glutathione

Maxdif Brightening Serum combines 3% Vitamin C, 2% Alpha Arbutin, glutathione, and ferulic acid for uneven tone and dark spots. Vitamin C is an antioxidant used to support brighter-looking skin. Alpha arbutin is a common cosmetic ingredient aimed at the pathway that makes pigment. Glutathione is also a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals in the skin. Know that brightening here means evening out marks and dullness. It does not mean changing your natural skin color, and none of these ingredients will.

Sunscreen Decides Whether The Rest Pays Off

A pigment serum can be perfectly formulated and still lose to unprotected commutes all around the year in Pakistan. The AAD recommends SPF 30 or higher, broad-spectrum, and water-resistant. Apply a teaspoon for the face 15 minutes before going out and reapply every two hours when outside. SPF 30 blocks roughly 97% of UVB, and higher numbers add only a little on top, so texture and consistency matter more than chasing SPF.

Texture is where most people quit. Gels suit oily skin. Cream suits dry skin. For dark spots, tinted sunscreens with iron oxides. Check the label for iron oxide, since not every tint contains it.

Jenpharm’s Spectra range covers the main choices:

  • Spectra Matt SC SPF 50 for oily and acne-prone skin

  • Spectra Block SPF 60 for normal and combination skin

  • Tinted Spectra Block Max 100: for dark spots and a tinted finish

  • Spectra Block Aqua Fluid SPF 60 PA+++ with lightweight texture for acne-prone, comedone-prone, and oily skin.

Adjusting for Pakistan’s Weather

Summer in Lahore or Multan, and monsoon humidity in Karachi, push oil and sweat up. Gels and lotions make more sense than creams. Riders like food delivery or parcel delivery riders must wash their face after sweating, as heat and helmets can irritate skin. You can also use Jenpharm’s Skin Rescue Mist to calm skin in summer or harsh climates.

Winter changes the rules in Islamabad, Peshawar, Lahore, or Quetta; dry air and indoor heating pull water from the skin. That’s the season to cut an exfoliating wash back to a few nights a week. Swap it with a soap-free ceramide wash or move to a thicker moisturizer. Your skincare routine in Pakistan must also focus on heels and elbows that crack first. Dermive Urea (10% urea with Vitamin E) is Jenpharm’s body option.

Dust and heavily trafficked days come down to the evening cleanse. A gentle wash does that job. Scrubbing harder doesn’t improve it.

Adding Actives Without Ruining The Barrier

A damaged barrier is the usual way a good routine goes wrong. It tends to follow a pattern: three new actives in one week, an exfoliating wash every night, and a belief that tingling makes the product work. It doesn’t. Persistent stinging is the skin reporting a problem.

A slower approach works better. Patch test on the inner arm for 24 hours. Add one product at a time and give it three to four weeks before judging. Skin renews itself over roughly a month in many younger adults and more slowly with age. Start acid one or two nights a week. When you start that serum, use a gentle wash rather than an exfoliating one on the same night.

If your moisturizer starts to sting, your face feels tight within a minute of washing, or you notice flaking around the nose, pause the actives. Quit using actives for a couple of weeks. Switch to a gentle wash, a moisturizer, and sunscreen until the barrier settles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good skincare routine for Pakistani skin?

A good skincare routine for Pakistani skin depends on the skin type, the region you live in, and the time of the year. Summer requires gentler or gel-based moisturizers and sunscreens. Winter needs thick moisturizers and sunscreen as well. So, keep adjusting your routine according to what your skin has to face.

How do I choose my skincare routine?

You should choose your skincare routine by understanding your skin type. Oily skin? Oil-controlling washes and lightweight sunscreens and moisturizers. Dry skin? Ceramides and a hyaluronic acid-based routine. Sensitive skin? Switch to fragrance-free. Keep checking how your skin reacts to products.

How do I know my skin type for skincare?

If your skin gets shiny all over an hour after washing, you have oily skin. If your skin feels tight after washing, you have dry skin. If you get oil around your T-zone, you have combination skin. Or if your skin reacts immediately to products, your skin is sensitive.

What are common skincare ingredients?

Some common skincare ingredients are hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, Vitamin C, Salicylic acid, Mandelic Acid, etc. All of these have different functions on the skin and work according to your skin type. Understand your skin's needs and then form your routine.

What are the three basics of skincare?

Cleanse, moisturize, and protect. These are the three basics of a skincare routine. A healthy routine does not need anything more than these. But if you have specific skin concerns, you can add serums with salicylic acid, mandelic acid, niacinamide, Vitamin C, or more.
